20 Best Sci-Fi Films Of The 21st Century
11. Snowpiercer
Of all the post-apocalyptic worlds that we've crammed into this list Snowpiercer is definitely the strangest bit of world building that you're going to find here or anywhere else for that matter. At least until they try and adapt In Watermelon Sugar, that is, but that'll never happen.
Snowpiercer - from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho - is stunning. Visually speaking, you'll find few films that are quite as much of a treat and Bong's stylistic fingerprints are present in every frame. Chris Evans also proves, once again, that he's far more than just a garden variety action star and plays Curtis with true sadness, whilst Tilda Swinton channels Margaret Thatcher to imbue a horrid bureaucratic evil in Minister Mason.
Another highlight lies in the journey through the titular train. This might sound stupid or obvious, but the fascination and mystery in what could possibly be in the next cabin is almost enough to make you forget the true horror of the world that these characters inhabit.
Snowpiercer's true achievement, however, lies in the fact that post-apocalyptic revolution led action flicks are a dime a dozen, but Bong manages to somehow make Snowpiercer feel like something truly original and one of a kind. It's a must see, and the graphic novel that acts as its source material is also a must read. Get on it.
