20 Greatest Meta-Horror Movies Of All Time

17. Chillerama (2011)

Chillerama is a throwback horror anthology film consisting of four stories (or segments) that take place at a drive-in theater playing monster movies. Each segment is a homage to a different genre and style. The first segment, written and directed by Adam Rifkin, is Wadzilla, which is a spoof of 1950s monster movies. The second segment, written and directed by Tim Sullivan, is I Was A Teenage Werebear which parodies Rebel Without A Cause, Grease and The Twilight Saga to great effect. The third segment, written and directed by Adam Green, is called The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein and spoofs Hitler and The Diary Of Anne Frank. The last segment, written and directed by Joe Lynch, is Zom-B-Movie, a spoof of zombie films that properly turns the genre on its head. Juvenile, crude and filled to the brim with self-referential humor, Chillerama could easily pass for a Troma movie with the exception of less boobs and more people that can act. The highlight of the film is genre legend Kane Hodder as one pissed-off Jewish Frankenstein that won€™t be denied the opportunity to knock the block off a foam-headed Hitler.
