There's been talk of a Firestarter remake for a long time now, but in the wake of It's success, things started to pick up pace a little more and summer 2018 saw the hiring of a new director in the shape of Faith Akin.

Variety reported that Akin is making the remake for Universal and Blumhouse, from a script by Scott Teems and with former appointed director Akiva Goldsman producing. Akin's In The Fade is his biggest draw so far, but he's also attracted a lot of indie appreciation with Soul Kitchen and Goodbye Berlin.

The story of a girl with pyrokinetic powers and the government’s attempts to bring her in was previously made starring a young Drew Barrymore and there are rumours she'll return in another role, which makes this even more exciting.
