13. The First Cut Is The Deepest - A Prophet (2009)
An entry for a movie you may not have even heard of, but believe me when I say; this is well worth your time. It stars Tahar Rahim as Malik El Djebana, an Algerian man who is imprisoned for petty crimes and rises in the prison hierarchy, initiating himself into the Corsican and Muslim subcultures that lie within. Iconic Moment: The film is refreshingly unshackled of any usual genre conventions that come with gangster films, and is a film that brims with social commentary while maintaining itself as a powerfully entertaining watch. Coupling that freedom and social commentary is the scene in which Malik is forced to assassinate and kill for the first time by head Corsican, Luciani. A clean kill is the desired effect, yet Malik makes a mess of the assassination that kills Reyeb (a Muslim witness) and it becomes a moment that haunts him forever.
