9. Phil Coulson Facing Loki Alone (The Avengers)
Agent Phillip Coulson is a bloody hero and we all love him - but what a complete and utter idiot he was in the Avengers movie. When Loki had tricked Thor in to locking himself in S.H.I.E.L.D.s Hulk-proof cage, he was about to eject his adopted brother from the Helicarrier in order to drop him 30,000 feet to the Earths surface. He was then calmly interrupted by Coulson, who told him to step away, please whilst wielding an experimental and very threatening-looking weapon that S.H.I.E.L.D. had made using the disassembled parts of the Destroyer Armour. Loki being Loki, however, had a trick up his sleeve - he used his powers of illusion to trick Coulson, appearing behind him as if by magic, and stabbed him all the way through, so that the blade pierced his chest. Coulson was typically brave in doing this, but confronting Loki (who is basically a god compared to him) was a very bad choice for a human being and the inevitable occurred. Although, of course, his death was "fixed" in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the man everyone loves is back on our screens.
