20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Godzilla
15. Surreal International Posters
Due to the nature of international distribution at the time, many of the Godzilla movies in the 60s and 70s were renamed and edited to accommodate the cultural differences of other countries. This lead to some truly bizarre titles and posters that failed to accurately represent the films. For example, Germany called Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster Franksenstein. How does that make any sense? Poland in particular created some truly peculiar posters for many Godzilla movies. Even the United States was guilty of this. Mothra vs. Godzilla was renamed Godzilla vs. the Thing, which was marketed with a poster that implied Mothra was some king of squid. Even the English dub referred to her as the Thing, which makes no sense since, you know, she has a name. Needless to say, it must have been a confusing time to be a Godzilla fan outside Japan.
