7. Sinister 2 (2015)
The original Sinister was an underrated bleak horror from Doctor Strange director, Scott Derrickson, which saw Ethan Hawkes selfish true-crime writer murdered by the child-helpers of Bughuul, or Mr Boogie. It grossed almost $90million and a sequel became obvious. Not a huge amount is known about the plot, co-written again by Derrickson, but this one seems to focus on Shannon Sossamons single mother and children moving into a rural house and being haunted and frightened by Bughuul. If the ideas of the original are continued, it will be interesting to see how Bughuul moves away from the murder of Hawkes family to Sossamons but, either way, expect hauntings aplenty. Director Cirian Foy directed 2012s Citadel but whether he can make the leap to a larger (by horror standards) mainstream genre piece remains to be seen. Its good that Derrickson hasnt dumped Bughuul in favour of Doctor Strange so hopefully his script will ground Foys work and we get a piece with as bleak an atmosphere as the first.
