20 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2026

In August, it was confirmed that Leah McKendrick, writer, director, and star of last year's hit indie dramedy Scrambled, had been signed to write and direct an untitled monster movie for Universal due in 2026.

Details are firmly under wraps for now, though reports suggest the film revolves around a "mythical monster" from Universal's back catalogue. 

With Leigh Whannell directing both 2020's The Invisible Man and the upcoming Wolf Man film, it certainly appears as though Universal is again trying to build a connected tapestry of monster movies, following the embarrassing failure of the Tom Cruise-led Dark Universe.

As for which monster McKendrick is working on? It's anyone's guess.
