And finally, we have the only film on this list whose cast could possibly hope to hold a candle to Avengers: Doomsday's: Christopher Nolan's feverishly awaited epic fantasy, The Odyssey.

An adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic is certainly an unexpected pivot for Nolan, but considering his peerless ambition for crafting hand-made, huge-scale set-pieces, it feels like a harmonious match between material and artist.

Cast aside all the exhausting hand-wringing over the film's American accents, and there's little doubt that Nolan is going to serve up one of the most tactile and unforgettable cinematic experiences of the year, or probably any year, that you'll want to see on the biggest screen possible.

Whether it'll follow on from Nolan's Oppenheimer as another serious awards player or serve as a more down-the-line blockbuster remains to be seen, but it's clear from what we've seen so far that the director is putting every penny of his colossal budget on the screen.

The Odyssey releases on July 17.
