This adaptation of Mart Crowley's 1968 play of the same name is another project from producer Ryan Murphy's epic deal with Netflix, after Murphy helped revive the play in 2018 to Tony Award-winning success.

Murphy insisted that the revival's director, Joe Mantello (The Normal Heart), be brought aboard to helm the film along with all of his cast, led by Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, and Andrew Rannells.

The play focuses on four gay friends reuniting to celebrate one of their birthdays, when the party is interrupted by the host's possibly closeted college roommate.

Dubbed a "game-changer" during its original 1968 release, The Boys in the Band may well find itself a whole new audience when it hits the small screen later this year.
