20 Most Anticipated Upcoming Horror Movies
10. The Purge: The Island
Got the urge to purge once more? Universal and Blumhouse hope so, as they're offering up a fourth instalment in the dystopian future action-horror series set in an alternate United States of America which maintains an idyllic, crime-free existence by making all crime legal for one night of the year.
The Purge: The Island (double 'the' title feels a bit clunky, no?) sees series writer-director James DeMonaco step back from the director's chair in favour of Gerard McMurray. Taking the prequel route, the film will show how the very first Purge night went down, restricted to a single location: Staten Island, New York.
Many of us will continue to question the logic of the premise, but at this stage it seems unlikely that anyone who isn't already a confirmed fan of the series will be showing up. Still, the existing three Purge films have delivered steady thrills with a sharp edge of social commentary, so no doubt we can expect more of the same this time around.
