2. Halloween
40 years on from John Carpenter's 1978 classic which kick-started the slasher movie boom, Halloween is back, with original lead actress Jamie Lee Curtis, original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle, and Carpenter himself on board as executive producer and composer.
Director and writer team David Gordon Green and Danny McBride might seem unlikely choices for the project (they previously collaborated on comedies Pineapple Express and Your Highness), but they insist they're taking this job very seriously, with designs on doing justice to the original masterpiece.
In so doing, Green and McBride have also opted to disregard literally the entire Halloween franchise beyond the original; though it's technically the 11th film in the series, this new entry will serve as a direct sequel to Carpenter's film. Rumour has it, the film is also intended to definitively bring the series to a close.
Well, given that final girl heroine Laurie Strode has officially been killed off twice already in the series, we won't hold our breath about this one closing the book on Halloween for good; but still, it should be exciting to see if some new life can be breathed into it.
It's also worth noting that Green is a producer on the remake of Dario Argento's Suspiria, which is expected to land sometime in 2018, although no release has been confirmed at the time of writing.
