20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
15. Harry & Marv - Home Alone
As a Christmas film, Home Alone is nothing short of a classic that more than a few would call their favourite. However, in terms of logic, it tends to fall short, from a family forgetting their own child as a premise, to the war between Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) and Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern).
Of course, this lends to the story's charm, and realism clearly wasn't nor should it have been the filmmakers' primary concern, but it can't be denied that the villainous burglars went above and beyond the realms of sanity.
The reason was complete and utter pettiness. Essentially, they weren't just stopped from robbing the house of the McCallisters, but they were embarrassed by a small child. They could have walked away, but the damage to their ego wouldn't let them.
Instead of just admitting defeat against the boy and moving on, the Wet Bandits kept on coming, inflicting more and more pain and humiliation upon themselves. At one point, Kevin ziplined out to the treehouse, leaving Harry and Marv alone in the house, and even then, they didn't rob the house as they were supposed to. It became about revenge on little Kevin because he foiled them in the first place.
