Johnny Depp is another actor who undoubtedly possesses unmatchable talent, yet the eccentricity in his delivery, which can be a major asset to his acting, seems to be a bit too unconventional for the conservative Academy voters. But there is no doubt among the public that his superb array of performances to date deserve an Oscar. As a major household Hollywood name, there is clearly no questioning his popularity, and his appearances in big commercial successes such as Pirates Of The Caribbean, Sweeney Todd and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory have all gone some way in him realising this status. Depp has gathered 3 Oscar nominations to date, for Curse Of The Black Pearl, Finding Neverland and Sweeney Todd. You can see, through the variety of these performances alone, that he occupies the status as one of the most versatile Actors in Hollywood. He has also hit critical success in other films earlier on in his career, such as Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands and A Nightmare On Elm Street. Although in a recent development Depp has become renowned for his famous collaboration with equally alternative director and friend Tim Burton, a man whom he has liaised with 8 times on films such as Dark Shadows, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.
