20 Problems Only Cannes Film Festival Attendees Will Understand

2. Never Being Able To Take Food Into Screenings

As everyone has begun to realise this year, Cannes has a set of unspoken rules about who can get in where, and what they have to wear, or carry with them at the time.

The flatshoegate business is only part of it: you can't take food in to screenings at all. Which is about as alien to the real experience of watching cinema as going to a baseball game and not having a hotdog.

Your bags will be vigorously checked for even the slightest hint of a sandwich, even when you're attempting to see three back to back screenings and will have absolutely zero time for putting anything in your mouth between them.

Fair play, they don't want mess, but have a heart.
