20 Recent Horror Movies WAY Better Than Expected

Locked is a psychological horror-thriller which just screams "this was a COVID movie," even though it actually wasn't.

A remake of 2019's Argentine film 4x4, Locked follows a petty thief, Eddie (Bill Skarsgård), who breaks into a state-of-the-art SUV only to find himself remotely locked inside by its well-off owner, William (Anthony Hopkins).

With its almost hilariously cramped single location and Anthony Hopkins quite literally phoning in most of his role, it was easy to take one look at the trailers for Locked and fob it off as a junky, low-budget genre effort.

But ultimately this is a surprisingly solid little excursion - one which makes impressive use of its confined, claustrophobic setting and actually teases a genuinely engaged, menacing performance out of Hopkins who, let's face it, could've easily just sleepwalked his way through.

It's certainly not anyone's favourite film of 2025, but the fun gimmick and inspired pairing of Skarsgård and Hopkins make this a neat sit.
