20 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Completely Flat

2. I Know What You Did Last Summer - Ray Is One Of The Killers

The good news? Making original protagonist Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr) one of the new killers in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot was a bold move that no-one saw coming. The bad news? The reason why no-one saw it coming is because it doesn't make any sense. Ray never, at any point, came off as anything remotely resembling a killer in the original films.

More than anything, this just felt like a flippant middle-finger to the character, the pre-established story and fans of the older movies. Well, none of the old ones are genuinely good but apparently, fans of them do exist, and few were happy with this out-of-left-field plot turn.

Frustratingly, the other twist villain is actually good and the rest of the movie is OK-enough, arguably better than the 1997 original in fact. If they'd just done away with this plot element it all would've been fine and given how predictable the fan-backlash was, it's a mystery as to why they went ahead with it.

This was basically the equivalent of a Scream sequel unmasking Sidney Prescott or Gale Weathers as the killer. There's a good reason none of the Scream films have done that; it wouldn't make the faintest bit of sense!

Speaking of which...
