20 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Completely Flat

1. Scream 7 - The Worst Ghostface Reveal EVER

For a long time, it seemed likely Scream 7 might show up on a list like this, as Matthew Lillard was reprising his role as Stu Macher despite the character dying in the original Scream. It was feared that Stu would be resurrected in a shark-jumping move.

Eventually, it turns out that it's just an AI impersonation and after seeing the final film... if only Stu had still been alive. That would've been so much better than the bilge that we got. No recent plot twist has stunk quite as badly as this one, especially as the Scream movies are normally great at their killer-reveals.

Usually, the killer is someone known to the characters but here, it's nothing like that. It's three random people who've barely been seen throughout the story, led by Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) next-door neighbour Jessica (Anna Camp), a Sidney fangirl who is doing the murders because... she was disappointed that Sidney wasn't present during the New York murders (as depicted in Scream VI) and now she wants to... kill Sidney so that Disney's daughter Tatum (Isabel May) will become a Final Girl like her mother.... what?!

Nothing about this felt logical or earned, and the trio of killers were by far the blandest in Scream history. Scream 7 blew up the box office and an eighth film is incoming but after this, it's hard to feel terribly enthused about the future of this series.
