20 Recent Movies That Deserve A Sequel

Mickey 17 seemed to have a lot going for it when it released, with a strong cast, an Oscar-winning director, and good source material to work from in Edward Ashton's Mickey 7. However, things just didn't quite click, and it ended its theatrical run as one of 2025's most disappointing films.

That's not to say that it was a complete write-off, however. There was enough in Mickey 17 to make an enjoyable film if an audience could forgive its many flaws, and while it did not live up to expectations, a sequel could go a long way to offering a redemption of sorts.

Just one year after Mickey 7 came Antimatter Blues, a fun sequel that saw Mickey Barnes on something of an adventure across the frozen planet along with Nasha, a handful of others, and one of the monstrous Creepers that inhabit the planet called Speaker.

Based on the creative direction the film took compared to the novel, there would have to be some changes made, but a sequel could definitely build on the imperfect first outing to produce something unique and fun, taking full advantage of Robert Pattinson's talents. Bong Joon-ho has already said he has other priorities on the table rather than a sequel, but he did not rule out the idea completely.
