Xtro is one of the many E.T. knock-offs released throughout the 1980s, though this one at least distinguishes itself for being gloriously R-rated.

And yet, despite its plentiful gore and egregious nudity, Xtro is still a fundamentally bad movie in any sense that matters - trashily entertaining to a point, but absolutely risible in terms of its writing and acting even for B-movie standards.

There's a single moment early on, however, that's likely seared into the brains of anyone who saw Xtro on VHS as a child.

The movie begins with the titular alien creature hatching in a forest, just as a couple drives through the area. 

We then catch a fleeting glimpse of Xtro chilling out at the side of the road moments before it's hit by the couple's car, and said glimpse is absolutely cursed.

While most of the special effects don't hold up and weren't exactly great on release either, this distant look at Xtro in the car's harsh, unforgiving headlights is bracingly effective.
