20 Things That Almost Completely Changed Harry Potter Movies
20. Guillermo Del Toro Almost Made TWO Harry Potter Films
The Prisoner of Azkaban proved to be a significantly darker direction for the franchise, but it could have been a lot darker - and potentially weirder - as Guillermo Del Toro was offered the job (as well as The Half-Blood Prince gig). He was actually also interested but was ultimately put off by the constraints on his vision of the books. When the time came to hiring a director for The Deathly Hallows, he again expressed an interest, but feared Warner Bros would bind his hands too much. He was probably right.
19. JK Rowling Was Almost Lily Potter
Since the films were released, J.K. Rowling revealed on her website that she was considered to play Lily Potter in the first movie for the Mirror of Erised sequence, but she turned it down. Ultimately it went to Geraldine Somerville, a mostly unknown British TV actress.
