20 Things You Didn’t Know About Whiplash

3. Damien Chazelle’s Unnerving Commitment To Filming

As mentioned before, the Oscar-winning director is very particular about his craft, and he is not one to let any hurdle stand in the way of creating his vision. This was taking to unsettling heights during the filming of his 2014 opus, where the-then 28-year-old got into a car accident.

This is in itself horrifying as Chazelle had to be hospitalized after having suffered a concussion. However, what makes this particular anecdote rather bizarre is that he returned to work the next day in a scenario and level of commitment similar to what Andrew went through during the film’s second act.

While it is incredibly fortunate that the storyteller was not gravelly injured, this was a creepy instance of the lines between art and life becoming increasingly blurred.
