20 Things You Didn't Know About Django Unchained

11. Django's Wardrobe Was Full Of Important References

Django Unchained
Miramax Films

Django rocks a couple of extravagant outfits throughout the movie. When he enters the plantation owned by Big Daddy, in pursuit of the Brittle brothers, he's wearing a flamboyant blue suit. This suit is a reference to Thomas Gainsborough's famous painting "The Blue Boy". The suit inspired influential German filmmaker F.W Murnau (the man behind Nosferatu) to make Der Knabe in Blau (The Boy in Blue). This film was later lost but it's a tasty Easter egg for Tarantino to hide in there.

Later in the movie, Django can be seen wearing a pair of sunglasses inspired by the pair that Charles Bronson wore in 1977 film The White Buffalo. Fun historical fact: Sunglasses weren't available in the USA until the 20th century.
