20 Things You Didn't Know About The Rocky Horror Picture Show
13. Susan Sarandon Caught Pneumonia During Filming
By all accounts, shooting The Rocky Horror Picture Show was not a pleasant experience.
Filmed between October and December at Oakley Court in Windsor, England, the Victorian country house had leaks which, combined with inclement weather, resulted in a set both wet and cold.
The production created a single "warm room" filled with space heaters where the cast and crew could warm up, though that promptly came to an end when the room caught fire.
Susan Sarandon eventually raised the poor working conditions to Fox, who told her she was complaining too much.
But she ended up catching pneumonia after filming the pool scene, leaving her "shaking with fever" according to Richard O'Brien, who admitted she should've been supervised by a doctor yet refused to stop working.
As for Barry Bostwick, he got off a little more lightly with a common cold, but still, not good.
Perhaps worse than all this is the fact that the set had few bathrooms to accommodate the cast and crew. Oof.
