Aside from everything that Quentin Tarantino has done in his career, the incredible movies he has put together, the awards he has won, and the respect he has garnered over his long and celebrated career, he is all too often relegated to an association to the shots of female feet he puts in just about every one of his films.

This has become something of a running joke over the years. The most famous is arguably Selma Hayek’s scene with Tarantino himself in From Dusk Til Dawn, but this is a common theme throughout the director’s entire career. Of course, Pulp Fiction is no different.

It may seem obvious where these expected scenes take place. When Mia first comes down to meet Vincent the camera shows only her bare feet, and there is more than a little time in the opening chapter of the movie devoted to talking about Tony Rocky Horror potentially giving her a foot massage. However, that is not everything.

The last one is far more subtle, and could have been missed, but Esmeralda’s bare foot is shown pressing down the accelerator as she takes Butch away from his big prize fight. Quite why the cab driver isn’t wearing shoes is never explained, apart from the director’s tendency to include such shots, but fans have come to expect these things even without an explanation.
