With George Lucas himself suffering from bronchitis at the time of shooting and creating the robotic Separatist general, the creator decided that his chesty cough wouldn't feel out of place tumbling out of General Grievous' artificial body over the course of the flick.
So, every time you hear Grievous let loose one of his notable throat bursts in the flick, which Lucas revealed to be the result of cybernetic imperfections of the time when he was being transformed into his final form, you're actually taking in the coughs of the creator himself after choosing to head into work under the weather.
