The Incredible Hulk's presence in the Thor sequel was an inspired choice. While it may not be the character study that the 2012 Avengers movie offered, seeing Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner and his more volatile counterpart bounce off Thor, Loki and Valkyrie in the cosmos made for entertaining MCU hijinks.

However, according to Kevin Feige, the Jade Giant was not intended to be part of the story in its initial stages of development. It turns out that Banner's alter-ego wasn't even supposed to land on Sakaar after Age of Ultron as Feige did not want the audience to think that a Planet Hulk film was on the horizon.

Fortunately, the shared desire to revitalize the Thor franchise eventually led to the Hulk joining the fray.
