20 Upcoming Action Movies That Could Beat Mad Max: Fury Road
8. Bourne 5
Release Date: July 29, 2016 Why It Could Beat Fury Road: Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon took the gritty spy genre to the next level with Jason Bourne's last outing, The Bourne Ultimatum, and given how sewn-up the movie's ending seemed, the pair must've come up with something very special indeed to risk tainting the character's curtain call with a new film. Greengrass has proved in his two Bourne movies as well as United 93 and Captain Phillips that he's a master of brutally realistic action sequences, employing minimal effects only where necessary, following the same ethos as Fury Road. Damon is also, of course, a superbly steely lead, more than capable of standing toe-to-toe with Tom Hardy, while rumoured female lead Alicia Vikander (who appears to be getting cast in everything these days) should bring a firm dose of feminine power. How Likely Is It?: 6/10. Though it's hard not to escape the feeling that another Jason Bourne movie is wildly unnecessary, it's also hard not to believe in Damon and Greengrass given their excellent prior work both together and separately. In short, it'd be a huge shock if the movie sucked, but can the sure grit on display compete with the stylised insanity of Fury Road? With a compelling enough plot and characters, just maybe.
