25 Most Hotly Anticipated Movies Of Summer 2016 - Ranked

5. Jason Bourne

Jason Bourne Matt Damon 2016
Universal Pictures

Release Date: July 29th

Billed As: The return of the REAL Bourne.

Hype: You have to give Universal some credit for attempting to pick up the Bourne franchise with the not-at-all-terrible The Bourne Legacy, but just as surely as Jeremy Renner is not Matt Damon, his stand-in character was little more than a lie masquerading as the main event. Luckily, the main man returns for the hipster Old Coke rebirth (complete with an oh-so-fashionable statement title).

Having disappeared into the ether to find himself after finding himself (very confusing, but not untrue), Jason Bourne is back, unexpectedly with the world falling to bits around him.

It's all very exciting: no matter how sick you might have got of the copycat actioners that followed Bourne, having the original back has got to count as a good thing. And with real life global surveillance an increasing source of anxiety and governments doing their level best to show why revolutions happen, Bourne feels like a returning people's champion. Let's hope it's all just more of the same.
