30 Essential Movies To Watch Before Turning 30

8. Swingers (1996)

Synopsis: Jon Favreau is completely gutted after what he thought was his dream relationship ended abruptly. Vince Vaughn makes it his life's goal to get his buddy over the heartache and into another woman's bed by showing him the ropes of single life in the West Coast scene. Through a series of mishaps and embarrassing faux pas, Favreau is lost between wanting his girlfriend back and moving on. Lesson: Yearning is a lost art; a dead language. Dwelling too hard on past events will only lead to further torture and regret. If you can learn to embrace the bad, like being alone for instance, you will open yourself up to finding something or someone else to enrich your life, rather than fill a void.

7. Amelie (2001)

Synopsis: Audrey Tautou is a child-like single adult who enjoys meddling in the lives of wrong doers until the fateful day she finds the treasured item of a good-looking stranger. Avoiding her own growing feelings for him, she sends the stranger on a wild goose chase to get the item back without ever meeting him face to face. When the chase is over, Tautou realizes that she has fallen in love with the stranger and has precious time to woo him. Lesson: There is always time for a good adventure. Adventure is what makes us all feel alive. You don't have to be young to have one, either. There is something endearing about having a child-like wonder behind your eyes. You're only old if you feel old. If you live your life open to fun and adventure, you'll feel younger than you actually are.

6. The Sweetest Thing (2002)

Synopsis: Cameron Diaz meets a hot guy who is celebrating a bachelor party at a bar one night and regrets not going home with him. Roommates, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair, encourage her to seek him out and see if what she feels is love at first sight. Applegate and Diaz hightail it to the town the mystery guy mentioned would be hosting the wedding in an attempt to get to know him better, but when the girls see it is his wedding, things get a little hairy. Lesson: Go with your gut. If your gut is telling you that something or someone is going to be have a huge impact on your life, then you should follow your instincts and seek it/them out. Sometimes you need a little spontaneity in your life to get what it is you need.
