Cinema might be over a century old and yet it's still constantly doing things you've never seen before, even now. The climax of Alex Garland's surreal folk horror Men is one such moment. It's the kind of scene that'll leave you staring agape at the screen, wondering what on earth just happened.

It has to be seen to be believed and words don't quite do it justice, although I'll give it a shot. The supernatural man (Rory Kinnear) who has been pursuing protagonist Harper (Jessie Buckley) throughout the movie abruptly becomes pregnant and gives birth to another Rory Kinnear... who then gives birth to another Rory Kinnear... who then gives birth to another Rory Kinnear... who finally gives birth to a figure that appears to be James (Paapa Essiedu), Harper's late husband.

It's gory, it's grotesque, it's completely and utterly crazy. Whatever viewers think of this polarizing horror flick, no-one is ever going to forget this brilliantly mad excursion into the fantastical, an unhinged slice of surrealism that would make Luis Bunuel proud.
