8. Terrifier 3 - The Shower Massacre

Terrifier 3 is known to have left many audience members feeling physically ill, and it was probably this sequence that set people off the most. It was clear that writer-director Damian Leone was trying to top the infamously gory Terrifier 2 and though nothing in this film quite topped the unbridled sadism of the infamous murder of Allie in its predecessor, it did still deliver the franchise's goriest moment to date.

That is the murder of Cole and Mia - this couple are getting it on in a shower when Art the Clown bursts in with a chainsaw. Being his usual sadistic self, he gruesomely dismembers them both and literally uses the chainsaw to penetrate Cole up the rear.

It's an absolutely disgusting moment, sure, but it's also an awesome scene in its own right no matter how nauseous it might make you feel. While the previous film was arguably too sadistic in giving its nastiest death to a completely innocent character, this sequence happens to the most irritating characters in the movie. That's not to imply that they deserved this in any way, but it does make it easier to digest.

It also makes it easier to appreciate everything this scene does so well - Thorton's god-tier performance as Art, Leone's intense direction, the masterful gore effects, the effectively ironic soundtrack and the well-judged tone, which mixes cruelty and black humour to great effect.
