Michael Braveheart worked as a background actor in so many episodes of Star Trek that it would be a true shock if one didn't recognise him. He was usually to be seen in medical blue, and he first appeared in the second season premiere of The Next Generation - The Child. From that episode until the penultimate episode of the series, he was frequently seen in the sickbay. In fact, the call sheet often referred to him as Dr. Death, although his official character name was Crewman Martinez.

Braveheart was of Native American descent, and also worked as a background performer on several other long-running series, including Cagney and Lacey, and Cheers. He was often hired for promotional work for Paramount as well, including attending several events in full Klingon regalia.

He would go on to appear in Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, as well as Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection.

Braveheart suffered ill health for the last few years of his life, including chronic congestive heart failure, and arthritis. He died at age 61.
