3. Elliot Carver
Clearly an attempt to make Bond villains a bit more current and up-to-date, Elliot Carver is a (more) villainous take on Rupert Murdoch, a media magnate who wants to play the worlds super-powers against one another in order to up his ratings. However, this is one attempt to be modern that doesnt work, primarily because it isnt half as imaginative as the filmmakers clearly think that it is. As far as Bond villain stakes go, this one is pretty pathetic, and frankly its a lot of the other things going in the film that are the most interesting, specifically Carvers hot trophy wife, played by Teri Hatcher, who only makes us hate Carver all that much more. Jonathan Pryce is an oddly-cast choice for Carver, seemingly unsure whether to play it straight or ham it up to the nines, creating an uneasy tone that only makes his villain seem more lukewarm and, frankly, quite forgettable.
