5 Huge Spider-Man: Homecoming Mistakes That Far From Home Must Avoid

4. The Lacklustre Romance

Part of Spider-Man: Homecoming's charm undoubtedly lay in the fact that portions of it played out like a John Hughes film. The unfortunate part, however, was that it was rather light on one of the fundamentals of a John Hughes film: romance.

That's not to say that superhero movies are in need of a central love story, the issue here was that Peter's burgeoning romance with Liz Toomes felt like an afterthought, as though it had been forced in to tick boxes without ever really achieving anything. It was never developed in the way that it needed to be, so it never felt like it had any real stakes.

Thanks to the great chemistry between Tom Holland and Laura Harrier, there were glimpses of how sweet this pair's romance could have been but, unfortunately, it was little more than a plot device simply concocted to make the Vulture reveal all the more shocking.

With Peter developing feelings for MJ in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it would be nice to see their potential relationship actually given the room that it needs to grow. Not only would this allow Zendaya to play more of a role in the sequel than Harrier did in the previous film, it would return that one missing ingredient to the wonderful Spidey/John Hughes mix that Homecoming came ever so close to perfecting.
