5 Movies That Prove Stanley Kubrick Is The Greatest Director Ever

2. Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gXY3kuDvSU Comedies don't come any darker or more outright hilarious than the genius Dr. Strangelove. The sheer audacity that Kubrick displayed while making this film is enough to cement him in the list of most daring filmmakers to ever live as well as the best. He took the very real terror and paranoia surrounding The Cold War and somehow transferred it into a narrative that made you think just as much as laugh. No other director in the history of the profession has been able to come anywhere close to achieving a feat like that in the way that Stanley Kubrick did. The way he blends the Howard Hawks style of screwball comedy with the seriousness of a tightly wound political thriller is jarring yet also very easy to watch at the same time. By taking two genres that are polar opposites of each other and blending them into one idea he made a film that can never be replicated in tone or relevance. If Paths of Glory is the most important political film about 20th century politics than surely Dr. Strangelove is the most important in regards to the 21st century.
