5 Reasons Why Cinema Is Dying And Needs To Evolve (And 2 Ways It Could Do That Instantly)

3. It’s Underappreciated

Now, cinema has been bleeding to death for a while and so far the list has contained many reasons as to why that has happened. However, there is still something about the big screen that makes it unique. Which is because it's still the best way to watch films, and recently it has become rather underappreciated.

Let’s face it, nobody is really going to set up a 70mm reel in their home in Romford so they can watch something like Dunkirk in the best possible quality. Which is why it is still the best option for cinemas to exist, so they may give us the best possible viewing and audio experience.

In reality, we’d all have loved to see The Irishman on a huge screen with an audience filled to capacity in more than a limited release, because the communal experience is still the one that produces the tension and drama you want for that kind of film. Nothing quite meets the experience of being in there with people from all walks of life and knowing that they are feeling it too.

There could never be a Tree Of Life series, simply because it’s so existential that nobody would probably commission eight hours of it. However, as a two-hour movie, it is nothing short of sublime. Some things, they just belong on the big screen where pure cinema can encapsulate and surround you totally.

Could we really all watch Star Wars on our phones and still retain the same level of feeling that we all have toward it? Absolutely not.

Now to look at two ideas that have been mooted to save the dying cinema experience.
