50 God-Tier Acting Moments Buried in Bad Movies

36. Carla Nearly Loses Her Daughter - Jaws: The Revenge

There's a good reason Jaws: The Revenge is commonly cited as one of the worst movies ever made. It's crushingly dull, it's poorly acted, its script is a load of toilet paper, and it actually approaches something as stupid as a shark seeking revenge, eating a plane, and roaring like a lion without a hint of self-awareness.

Having said this, there's an argument to be made that, in the same way no film is without flaws, no film is completely devoid of positives, and Jaws: The Revenge is no exception to that. Most of the cast come out of the picture poorly, and yet, believe it or not, there is one moment of strong acting in the movie.

This comes from Karen Young, who plays Carla Brody, the wife of Michael Brody (Lance Guest) and daughter-in-law of Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gary), who graduates to protagonist in this instalment after Roy Scheider once again absolutely refused to do another one (good on you, Roy!).

Young gives what is perhaps the only genuinely strong performance in the film, especially when her daughter Thea (Judith Barsi) is almost killed by the movie's shark antagonist. She convincingly and powerfully portrays a terrified mother who almost suffered the worst loss anyone can experience. When she confronts Michael about his failure to inform them that a shark was stalking them, screaming "Why did you tell us?!" in desperation, this is quite frankly the only moment when this movie doesn't feel like a cynical joke.
