50 Huge Movie Characters That Were Completely Miscast

5. Tom Cruise As Jack Reacher - Jack Reacher

There aren't too many actors who can claim to have done it all and actually back it up, but Tom Cruise truly has. He has won awards, he has delved into comedy, he has led franchises, and against all odds, he even managed to bring to life one of the only truly brilliant legacy sequels in Top Gun: Maverick.

One thing that he can not boast however, is a physically imposing frame. This hasn't held him back in his career, nor should it have, but it did stop him from being a true representation of Jack Reacher.

The character from the source material is famously a hulking brute, something that Alan Ritchson has since portrayed excellently on Prime Video, which has driven home even further what a baffling casting decision Tom Cruise truly was. There is attempting to subvert expectations, but then there is just changing the core of who a character is supposed to be.

Jeremy Allen White has already appeared on this list for being too short for Kerry Von Erich, but this was on another level entirely. This was the basis of the leading character, and without it, Cruise was never going to be able to play a real Jack Reacher.
