22. Beau - A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place
Paramount Pictures

In 2017, Jordan Peele moved from a typically comedic background to directing one of the best horror movies in recent memory with Get Out. Just one year later, John Krasinski followed suit, writing and directing A Quiet Place, and naturally there was a lot of intrigue as to how he would approach such a project.

If anyone thought the man best known as the goofy Jim from The Office wouldn't be a fit in the world of horror, they were quickly corrected. Talk about kicking things off with a bang.

Based in a world where any kind of sound would bring down a vicious killer alien monster, the opening minutes were almost completely silent, and were incredibly tense. The Abbotts and their three young children were getting supplies in town, however when they were leaving, their youngest son, Beau (Cade Woodward), made the mistake of putting batteries in the toy rocket he found and turning it on.

This was terrifying, as Krasinski's character sprinted to get to his son before anything happened. The kid was no older than four or five, and so you'd be forgiven for thinking that his dad would save him in the nick of time. But no. Within minutes of the franchise opening, Beau was brutally killed, and Krasinski showed that he meant business.
