50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED
46. Malcolm Crowe - The Sixth Sense
Sticking with the theme of iconic moments that have stood the test of time, we now have what is widely regarded as one of the greatest twists in the history of film: that Bruce Willis' Malcolm Crowe has been dead the whole time in The Sixth Sense.
These days, audiences generally know to expect something out of left field from pretty much any M. Night Shyamalan movie, but back in 1999, this was groundbreaking. It changed absolutely everything about the story, and almost demanded viewers to rewatch it.
The death scene itself is not particularly traumatic. Malcolm and his wife have their home broken into, and he is shot by a former patient. Not pleasant, but in terms of cinematic deaths, it didn't exactly stand out on first viewing, as no one knew he had actually died.
Until you get hit with that mean left hook of a twist.
Everything you thought was real about the story is called into question, as the audience realises they have been lied to. It's difficult to see a character you've connected with pass away, but to know that they have been dead the entire time without you even realising is something else entirely.
