6 Films Based On Books To Get Excited About In 2014

1. The Hobbit: There And Back Again

It feels unnecessary to discuss the plot of this film as it picks up where the second film left off, and those of you who haven't read the book will want to avoid all spoilers. Those who have seen the two previous films are currently sat shaking their legs in anticipation, and those who haven't are either mad or a hater of all things Jackson, in which case they have probably already closed their web browser whilst grumbling to themselves in annoyance that this is where the list has lead them. To put it bluntly, The Hobbit films so far have not been without their faults. With The Lord of the Rings being so universally loved and praised, it was always going to be tricky for Jackson to create something of the same magnitude, and it does seem that so far The Hobbit has fallen short. The fight sequences are less epic, the characters less interesting, and the plot less elaborate. The mixed reviews and general response to the first two instalments suggests that there is a feeling of disappointment in the air. But fear not fellow wannabe-hobbits, as I am a believer in Jackson and know that this third film will see him turn it all around, concluding the trilogy in a way that leaves the audience momentarily breathless before letting out a huge sigh of relief. Like The Return of the King, this film will tie together each character's storyline and answer all questions in a no doubt magnificent fashion, forcing you to realise why Jackson has the reputation he has. As the saying goes good things come in threes, and with the third instalment we will all understand why it was worth sticking it out for the first two films - and also why this is top of the list.
