6 Films That Put Painstaking Work Into Things You Don’t Even Notice
2. Popeye: An Entire Village Was Built From The Ground Up
Popeye is one of the most forgettable films on the late Robin Williams's CV, but it certainly left a lasting impression on Malta, the country where it was filmed.
Although the same cannot be said of its script, a lot of work went into the movie's set. An entire village was built by the sea from the ground up to serve as the spinach-guzzling sailor man's home of Sweethaven.
Danish architect Hans Munk Hansen designed the village and a construction crew spent seven months putting it together, using materials imported from the Netherlands and Canada, and it became a permanent fixture in Anchor Bay.
While Popeye wasn't the blockbuster hit Disney and Paramount Pictures were looking for, its set has gone on to become a popular tourist attraction in Malta, playing host to museums, a small cinema and live shows.
