6 Surprising Developments That Could Rock The Marvel Cinematic Universe

3. The Avengers 3 - Rumour 1: No Captain America Or Thor

One of the most interesting aspects of the Avengers is that the roster keeps on changing. Joss Whedon's second movie is set to expand the team with Scarlet Witch and Quicksliver joining the mix (and potentially, as the last rumour suggested, a whole lot more). The biggest concern moving forward is that favourite characters will be sidelined or new characters will not be given enough development time as future Avengers films become increasingly overcrowded. The latest rumour goes that both Thor and Captain America may actually sit out Avengers 3, with Iron Man teaming up alongside newbies like Scarlet Witch. It will be a bold and interesting path for the Marvel movies to take, testing out the water to see if audiences will still engage with these movies if some fan favourites are not present. If it works, there could feasibly be multiple Avengers films, each with different rosters. But with a character like Iron Man heading this team in the third Avengers will there still be enough of a connection that audiences will still engage with the characters and story as it unfolds?
