7 Unbelievably Good Opening Credits In Movies

6. The Spy Who Loved Me

I know what you are thinking, where is Goldfinger? As iconic as that sequence is, I have always preferred this from the Roger Moore fronted, The Spy Who Loved Me. Though Goldfinger is the prototype of the Bond opening sequence personally I have always been bothered by the fact that Shirley Bassey€™s theme song- as good as it is- paints a picture of the villain that isn€™t seen in the film itself. Perhaps it€™s just me but upon hearing the song I expect a villain more like Bond himself rather than the Auric Goldfinger we get. The lyrics are fine but Bassey€™s line delivery- though great- comes across as sex and seductive, that is fine if you€™re singing about bond but not Goldfinger. I love it but for me this is why I can€™t choose it ahead of The Spy Who Loved Me. Now this one has it all; it follows one of the most memorable pre- title sequences in the series, which ends with Bond skiing of a cliff and using a union flag to save himself, from there the hands of a woman rise up and appear to catch the parachute and the music kicks in. The sequence has everything you could want from Bond, lots of the spy himself as well as guns and suggestive images of women. The best of all though is the song- Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon- this song is about Bond and truly captures the spirit of 007, especially the Roger Moore version of the character. With the previously mentioned suggestive images of women combining with the song it really feels like someone is singing of Moore€™s Bond, he is seductive, good looking and though I never thought I would bring up Wolverine in a bond discussion, he is the best at what he does. To me this is the Bond credit sequence at its best, though in truth I could have made a list based on Bond alone, so that is why I limited it to just the one.
