8 Big Questions About The Future Of DC Film Universe

4. Will We Ever See The Joker/Robin/Batman Backstory?

Right from Batman v Superman's first, main trailer, speculation has been rife as to the circumstances surrounding the shot-up Robin suit that Bruce keeps hold of like a museum monument. Many thought the film itself, or Suicide Squad, would shed some light on the subject but as of now, we're still firmly in the dark.

It's an incredibly tantalising prospect though, and one that lends itself perfectly to a proper feature film. It also seems strange for Zack Snyder to include such a prominent Easter Egg - one clearly viewable in the film's trailers - and not mention it once. The director even mentioned the suit in an interview with IGN, stating "there was a fun backstory there to play with".

In short, the DCEU's leading director thinks this would be a good story to explore - but will it ever pop up?

The thing is, Robin would actually be a very logical character for Warner Bros to introduce. He's a widely-recognised hero with a huge fanbase, and in an age where nothing is truly standalone, it would make sense to have him and Batman team up, only for the Boy Wonder to die in the third act at the hands of the Joker.

As a result, we'd (hopefully) get one hell of a movie, be shown an interesting prequel story, and gain more of an insight into why Batman is the way he is - and that can't be a bad thing.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
