8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies

2. Jennifer Lawrence As Mystique

Jennifer Lawrence isn't exactly a new casting addition to the X-Men franchise after playing Mystique in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, but various reports have indicated that The Hunger Games star is keen to move on from the role and won't be renewing her contract when her three picture deal runs out with next year's X-Men: Apocalypse. The fact that she clearly doesn't really want to be part of this series now makes it very difficult to get excited about what she's going to bring to the table in this movie, especially as we don't see the actress in her blue make-up at all in the first trailer, something Lawrence has since confirmed came as a result of her requesting less time spent in the chair undergoing the arduous process of being transformed. That may be totally understandable from her point of view, but it's a disservice to both the character and comic book fans. Mystique is someone who stays blue because she doesn't feel the need to constantly appear human, and while Fox wanting to get Lawrence's face out there (she is a pretty big box office draw after all) likely has something to do with this, it would have actually been much better to recast the role than force Lawrence to return. She's a good enough actress to mean that she'll likely still be great here, but it's still hard to ignore the fact that someone else could have delivered a much more faithful take on Mystique.
