7. Monopoly
While the actual Monopoly board game is rather meaty, it seems impossible to faithfully translate to the big screen without picking it apart to the point that it's virtually unrecognisable.
For example, you could run with the central conceit of buying/selling buildings - a drama about an overly ambitious property investor, a heist thriller about a gang of criminals stealing dozens of properties from a business tycoon - but are any of these concepts really 'Monopoly'? Not really.
Irrespective of these concerns, a Monopoly movie is full-steam ahead at Lionsgate, who are developing the project that's been described as a 'crowd-pleasing event film' that's full of 'action and adventure'. Because if there's one thing that Monopoly's missing, it's explosions...
Development Status: Originally announced in 2008 with Ridley Scott (!) attached to direct, the film jumped between production companies before ending up at Lionsgate with writer Andrew Niccol, who announced the 'family-friendly' blockbuster in July 2015
