7. The Visit

From one acclaimed director to another, as we enter the ever-shifting world of M. Night Shyamalan.

Mr. Beach That Makes You Old has a habit of surprising people in his work, so perhaps we should have expected this plot twist in his actual life. He revealed in 2015 that he'd secretly been working on The Visit, his newest film since the absolute disaster that was After Earth.

Financed by his own money, Shyamalan wrote, directed, and produced this tale of two children being taken in by their grandparents and the terrors they find once they arrive at their secluded farmhouse.

Starring two young Australian actors Olivia DeJonge and Ed Oxenbould (great names, by the way), The Visit delivered big on scares, tension, and comedy in equal measure. Critics and paying customers thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with many calling it a return to form for the once-heralded director.

And thank God they did, because Shyamalan borrowed $5 million dollars against his own house to make sure this project got made.

Guess you could say he had a "Sixth Sense" that it was going to do well... ok, that was bad.
