8 Iconic Movies You Didn't Know Stole Their Entire Plots

5. Black Swan Is Pretty Much A Remake Of Perfect Blue

Awkward Moments In Film - Black SwanBlack Swan was a huge critical and commercial hit when it came out in theatres back in 2010, mainly because its director somehow managed to convince Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis to kiss, and also because it was a really great movie that just kind of came out of nowhere. The movie itself wasn't just about lesbians, mind you, but ballet dancing. And as a dark psychological thriller about a tormented Natalie Portman character trying to work through some psychological problems, it worked beautiful, "original" wonders. Notice "original" was in quote marks, did you? Clever reader. Because Black Swan, as brilliant as it is, follows pretty much exactly the same storyline as a Japanese anime called Perfect Blue from back in 2000. Perfect Blue, though, is about a pop star instead of a ballet wannabe, though the premise of both movies is exactly the same: girl gets pressured a lot, girl goes insane, girl sees doubles of herself, girl might have killed somehow. There's even a scene in Black Swan that mimics that of Perfect Blue, where the main character fights her "double" and smashes some glass. Further still, there are several dozen shots scattered throughout the movie which look exactly the same as they do in Perfect Blue. Bizarrely, Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan's director, apparently owns the rights to Perfect Blue. Which is... uh... what does that mean, exactly?
